What’s in a Name?

A catchy business name helps customers remember the brand, which in turn leads to loyal customers who can easily make referrals.  A memorable and effective name should be short and sweet, easy to spell and should sum up everything the business is about.  When selecting a name, business owners should consider their brand as a whole: colors, logo, tagline, business name and website address (URL).  No customer wants a difficult to spell or hard to remember name to have to type online.

Bumpers Etc. is an independently family-owned and operated auto body shop located in Ephrata, PA, and they put a lot of thought and effort into choosing their name and overall branding.

In January 2007, Nate Yunginger (owner of Bumpers Etc. Auto Body & Collision) had a mission to create an establishment that would serve his customers’ needs while fulfilling his goal of providing for his family and any future employees on his team.  Yunginger knew that one of the first things he needed to do was to create a name that would be unique, long-lasting and memorable.  In order to stand out, Yunginger wanted to avoid using his family name or selecting an ordinary name for his business.  The name “Bumpers Etc.” stands out because it is not generic and does not incorporate his last name, like many other auto body shops do.

One of the questions the team at Bumpers Etc. hears the most from customers is “do you just repair bumpers?”.  Since their main focus is on collisions, they looked at statistics to help them choose their name.  90% of the time, one of the first body panels to be damaged during a vehicle collision is a bumper cover.  Given that a high percentage of car repairs include bumper damage, Yunginger and his team knew they wanted to incorporate that word into their name.  They also wanted to make sure that anything else around the bumper cover or body of the vehicle (if damaged) would be incorporated in the name.  So, they added the “etc.” part, which means “and more” or “similar items are included.”  That is how the name, “Bumpers Etc. Auto Body & Collision,” was born.

Once they were sold on the Bumpers Etc. catchy name, they knew a logo that was equally recognizable and memorable was needed.  The logo consists of a high-quality vehicle with their name written inside of it to represent part of what the company stands for.  Yunginger and his team selected the high-end car image to represent quality craftsmanship and how it stands the test of time.  Now that the name was chosen and the logo was designed, the Bumpers Etc. team had to continue the branding process and choose coordinating colors to use throughout their logo and website design.  Yunginger decided on red and black since they are two powerful colors, much like the powerful automobiles his team works on.

At Bumpers Etc., their mission is to deliver a quality product that meets a customer driven commitment.  As their website states, Yunginger and his team “serve with a passion.”  Passion for the quality work they complete; passion for the knowledge they hold about cars and auto body work; and passion for the trust they build with their customers.   Don’t just take their word for how reliable and great an experience it is trusting Bumpers Etc. with your vehicle – check out the over 100 five-star reviews left by satisfied customers!   They are even committed to keeping their customers satisfied and safe, even during these unprecedented times surrounding COVID-19.
